Our family-owned tannery was founded in 1932 by the Chahin family. The traditions and values have since carried on for three generations. The skills and knowledge that have been acquired over eight decades are part of our heritage will continue to be passed onto future generations.
Through the years, the machinery and technologies may have changed but we still make our leather using the same artisanal process as in the beginning. Good things take time. Like a fine wine or bourbon, crafting the best leather shouldn’t be rushed. The vegetable tanning process takes about 45 days using high quality hides and natural vegetable tannins. This leather is known for creating finished products that not only become richer as they are used, but also develops a patina over time.
From the time we receive the hides, until the leather is finished, we not only keep you and your projects in mind but also those that will be using the leather goods. With proper care, products made with vegetable tanned leather can last a lifetime. Every project you create is as unique as the leather itself. We are proud to have our leather be part of your story.
ChahinLeather™ is located in Orizaba, a beautiful and culturally rich city located in Veracruz, Mexico. The tannery is proud of their city and is dedicated to preserving and improving its environment.
We have teamed up other companies in the area to build and maintain a state of the art water treatment plant to help in keeping Orizaba clean while also thriving. We are directly connected this water treatment plant to minimize the impact on the environment.
